VERY HAPPY 2021!!! On January 1st, I hosted a 90min online experience, Themed “Building A Better Next”, it highlighted several audacious yet remarkably tangible ideas that are shaping our future right now. I’m excited to give you a quick overview, because this is the kind of thinking, caring and acting we are being called to do now…

A Moment of Transformation
As deeply challenging as 2020 was, it made really visible the things that were working … and those that are not! It opened the doorway to an era of huge change and radical invention. As we sit on the front…

Sure, the world as we knew it is rapidly morphing. But even so, my seventeen year old daughter recently started her first real summer job, a rite of passage in sad decline for many teens. Selling fancy shaved ice treats from a food truck on 100 degree days in Austin is teaching her a lot, and it points to some of the issues we’re all thinking about as we consider the Future of “Work”, so indulge me here a minute…

While wearing masks and gloves, she and her friends working in a 5’x12'ish trailer have come to appreciate that job…

I’ve often wondered: if we were standing in Florence at the front end of the Renaissance, would we recognize the movement taking shape? Would we notice that art, politics, immigration, economics, science, technology and philanthropy were converging to propel Europe out of the Dark Ages?

Can we see many of the same things happening in our world right now?

When you speak with the visionaries and entrepreneurs actually building the technology applications of tomorrow-from on-demand retail to vertical farms-and ask how far into this new era we are, almost universally the reply is: “only one percent”. Imagine then, where we…

With Spring plans completely incinerated by this global pandemic, many of us are looking ahead to Fall, hoping by then the continuous roiling under our feet will have subsided. We look to China and Italy to see how things are taking shape, because we humans long for clarity and hope, even in an environment that continues to change by the day. So the question is, what will we know by September … and what won’t we (yet)?

For years we corporate strategists and futurists have been begging organizations and government leaders to become more adaptive, to…

I often smile that I am early for the future and late for the present, and once again that is true, as most the virtual ceremonies and drive-by neighborhood parades have passed. But having just read a few tweets about yesterday’s NYT Pandemic deathtoll headline, I am compelled to toss my thoughts into the graduation mix as you frame your story and your moment in history.

While it is true that you were born just before or after 9/11 (one of my three children was 8mos old at the time and I remember that morning in vivid detail) and that…

It seems like we’ve had our sights set on “2020” forever, doesn’t it? While the reality, of course, is that what we do today, tomorrow and over these next 365 days matters as much as what we do next year… and there is a lot of work to get done.

Happy 2019!! In my world, 2018 was an awesome year of learning, as I gave keynote talks all over north America to energy execs at the Tennessee Valley Authority, dentists investing in digital practices, corporate treasurers, the largest trade show organizers, those working to build personalized healthcare, financial and lifestyle…

Several weeks ago I found myself in an unexpected debate on Facebook when I posted an article which claimed the world is in better shape and yet hardly anyone knows it. As my commenters confirmed, only 6% of Americans believe things are better now than in the past, even though extreme poverty around the globe has dropped from 75% in 1950 to 10% today, currently over 80% of the planet can read (80%!) and infant mortality, once a very real concern has, mercifully, become a rare one … just a few examples.

Why such a focus on gloom? First, while…
